Why Social Media Isn’t Selling for You (And How to Fix It)

Oh, this question. We thought we’d pass it by 2025, but here we are!

Social media’s influence is undeniable, and still going strong. The businesses that thrive on these platforms often get a few essential things right. But before we get into details, let’s clarify one thing: there’s no magic formula.

A common mistake we see? Businesses are jumping onto every platform without a strategy or purpose. Just posting. Everywhere. All the time. Hoping something sticks.

Here’s the thing: social media and business should have an intimate relationship, one built on mutual respect. The keyword is social. These platforms were made for people to connect, not to be sold to.

Businesses, on the other hand, want to promote products and drive sales.

See the tension?

So, what’s the trick?

Adaptability. Testing. Communicating. Analyzing.

If you want social media to work for your business, you have to meet it where it is, understand its culture, tone, and rhythm. These platforms weren’t made for brands; they were made for people. And that’s your biggest opportunity.

It’s not about gaming the algorithm, it’s about showing up in ways that resonate. Whether you’re a startup or a global brand, the same truth applies: adaptability wins.

Even the Unilevers and Nestlés of the world don’t just post and pray. They adjust constantly because social media moves fast, and people move faster. So remember: you’re not here to “win” social media. You’re here to earn trust, attention, and loyalty from real people. Focus on them, and the platforms will follow.

Real-World Success Stories

Authentic, human-centered strategies help brands stand out and build trust. Here are a few quick examples that show the power of connection:

BEAU Activewear
After making zero sales at a local market, founder Caoimhe Stewart shared her honest experience on TikTok, and went viral overnight.

Walgreens
Walgreens builds customer trust by using social media to engage in helpful, real-time conversations, not just promotions.

Ochsner Health
By spotlighting real employee stories, Ochsner Health doubled engagement and made healthcare feel more human.

Why aren’t you getting sales from social media?

  • You only talk about your product or service
  • You’re focusing on selling only
  • You avoid building real relationships with your audience
  • You post without strategy or direction
  • You don’t understand the difference between organic content and paid ads
  • You haven’t found your brand’s human voice
  • You don’t post consistently or offer value

Sound familiar?

It’s alright, we’ve all been there, but you can shift your direction starting today.

So, what should you do?

Stop. Zoom out. Ask:

  • Who is your audience?
  • What are they trying to solve?
  • Why do they follow brands?
  • How does your value meet their goals?

Once you have that clarity, everything changes.

Because at the end of the day, people don’t open social media to follow brands. They come for connection, ideas, laughs, and stories. Your job is to become part of that world, not interrupt it.

Like Proximo said in Gladiator:

“Win the crowd, and you will win your freedom.”
Or in this case:
“Win the crowd, and you will earn your income.”

Why Humanizing Your AI Content Matters for Your Brand

The connection between your brand and its voice has been somewhat disconnected. AI came into play, and it has optimized the way we write, collaborate, and communicate.
